Studio LYON is a conceptual architectural design and artworks studio. We specialise in making contemporary artworks and in the planning and concept design for off-grid homes and homesteads, internationally.
Our Director Das Lyon has a proven history of award-winning, high-level project deliveries in the residential, retail, commercial and hotel industries.
All our new buildings are off-grid and passive, using solar, wind and back-up generators for power, along with catching and using rain water for all needs.

Barefoot Palace
The koi pool is located to maximise the cooling of the summer 'berg' winds that come from the hot desert over the verdant mountain range we can see to the north. This makes for a wonderful cool breeze flowing in to the house using passive architectural techniques. The pool also provides delight, reflects playful light in to the interior, and enhances the strong Feng Shui principles
Scarab Dunes
This lovely luxury timber home was designed to fit amongst a pristine rehabilitated coastal landscape with sensitivity. It is biophilic in that the structure will be covered in climbing plants and surrounded by the endemic, ancient Milkwood forest, and will soon be completely hidden in the landscape.
Our designs are most often a product of our holistic and passive architecture strategy, as seen in this image where we again use the cooling effect of the north facing pool to reduce interior temperatures during summer by opening the large, sliding double-glazed doors. Our buildings are fully insulated and orientated according to the Sun and prevailing climatic conditions.
Masterplanning
StudioLYON specialise in the integrative masteplanning of new and existing sites, globally. We carefully study the prevailing environmental and landscape factors, listening to the needs of the Earth and combining these answers with the client brief, to design a successful project that belongs and enhances its immediate and surroundings.
Our work consists of architectural concept design; interior design; custom furniture design and manufacture; landscape design; and the creation and installation of custom artworks- sculpture, paintings, prints and drawings for sale and commission.
